The Perfect Step Between Microdermabrasion and Full Skin Resurfacing!
This Sciton-developed laser peel removes only the outermost layers of the skin and can be repeated, for continued improvement, every 4-6 weeks to achieve any desired result. Healing takes only 2-4 days. Now you can have younger looking, healthier feeling skin with a popular new treatment the MicroLaserPeel.
Does this sound like you?
I've always been active. Years ago I was unaware of the
effects of sun and wind on my skin. Although I don't feel
as old as I sometimes look I'm not ready for surgery or
a long recovery process, but I'd love to look as young as
I feel!
The weekend skin peel, the MicroLaserPeel, treats skin
conditions associated with aging and an active lifestyle.
You can see real improvements in just a few days. Your physician
can advise you on how best to protect your skin to maintain
the benefits you will see from your MicroLaserPeel, and
can answer any question you might have.
Answers to your Questions
What is the MicroLaserPeel?
It is an intra-epidermal laser peel that precisely ablates
the outermost layers of the skin. The procedure is individually
tailored to the nature of the condition to be corrected.
Skin conditions such as: wrinkles, scars, acne scars, keratoses,
or pigmentary problems have been very successfully treated
with a MicroLaserPeel.
Who Should Consider a MicroLaserPeel?
If you are looking for more than microdermabrasion or light
chemical peels, and have little time for a prolonged healing
process, then the MicroLaserPeel was designed for you.
How is the MicroLaserPeel different from Microdermabrasion?
Generally, microdermabrasion only removes the stratum corneum
(2-4 microns). The MicroLaserPeel is a partial- to-full
epidermal peel (20-50 microns) and is performed with topical
anesthetic. Because this procedure ablates deeper into the
epidermis, it is the perfect step between microdermabrasion
and full skin resurfacing.
How many MicroLaserPeels can be done?
Typically, the procedure is repeated 2-5 times, spaced 4-6
weeks apart, but many peels may be done to achieve the desired
result.
What can you expect?
You will experience smoother, healthier, more vibrant skin,
with a significant, immediate change in skin texture and
tightness as compared to microdermabrasion.
How long is the healing process?
Healing takes 2-5 days. The procedure can be performed on
a Thursday or Friday, so you can return to work the
following Monday. Symptoms immediately following the procedure
resemble a sunburn, with minor sloughing on the second day.
Redness will begin to fade by the third day, and be easily
covered by makeup on the fourth day.
What should I know about pre- and post-treatment
care?
Your physician will provide you with very detailed pre-
and post-treatment information. |

What happens during hair removal treatment?
Your physician will discuss the treatment with you and decide how you should be treated. The area of your skin that is to be treated will be scanned with laser light from the PROFILE system. Treatment time will depend upon the aread to be treated. A system for cooling your skin will be used to remove heat as it leaves the follicles and should ensure a comfortable treatment. However, since the sensation varies from individual to individual, a topical anesthetic is usually not needed but can be provided. Let your physician know if you are very sensitive.
How does it work?
The PROFILE laser selectively targets your hair follicles
and heats them with infra-red energy. Unlike other
processes, the laser beam treats many hairs at once making
treatment of large areas very practical. The PROFILE
employs a unique computer guided scanning system that automates
the treatment ensuring that your skin is rapidly and evenly
treated. The computer sets the parameters and places
the beam in an optimum pattern for your skin. You
will have a safe, fast, effective, and gentle treatment.
What should I expect after treatment?
Some redness and slight swelling may be present in the area
that has been treated, however, this should subside within
a few hours. If any prolonged redness or swelling
occurs, then consult your physician. After the treatment,
you should keep the area clean, use at least SPF 15 sunscreen
when outdoors, and follow physician instructions.
How many treatments will I need?
You may need to be treated about 3 to 5 times at approximately
6 to 8 week intervals. There are three phases of hair
growth - anagen (growth phase), catagen (dying phase), and
telogen (resting phase). Only hairs in the anagen
phase can be successfully treated and it takes time for
the hairs in the telogen phase to cycle back into growth
again, hence the need for multiple treatments.
Is there a risk for complications?
There is a small risk of pigmentary changes, however, discuss
your concerns with your physician prior to your treatment.
Can pseudofolliculitis be treated?
Yes. Pseudofolliculitis is a type of chronic acne
disorder casued by ingrowth of coarse hairs or curly hairs. This disorder affects darker skin types and the infrared
energy, which is delivered by PROFILE, is the method of
treatment.
PROFILE FROM SCITON BRINGS A NEW APPROACH TO LASER
HAIR REMOVAL
What is Profile?
Profile is an infrared laser that can selectively target
microstructures such as hair follicles. It is very
effective for lighter skin types, and because of the relatively
low absorption of this light by melanin, it is the best
choice when treating darker skin types. Additionally,
the ability to safely treat sun-tanned skin makes this the
treatment of choice for active individuals.
Can all skin colors be treated?
Yes, all skin types I through VI can be treated. Skin
type I is very fair, always burns, nevers tans (usually
blonde hair and blue eyes). Skin type VI never burns
(black skin, black hair).
Can tanned skin be treated?
Tanned skin can be treated safely, but always inform your
physician if you have been tanning or exposed to the sun
within the last three weeks and he will adjust your treatment
regime accordingly to give you the safest, most effective
experience. |

What is the PROFILE vascular
laser?
Profile is a new laser using infrared energy and the new standard
for the treatment of many skin conditions. Profile allows
your physician to precisely treat visible vessels, broken
capillaries spider veins lesions and discoloration of your
skin. Your treatment will be tailored to match your skin condition
and desired result. What conditions
can be treated?
Rosacea Redness
Telangiactasia Spider veins
Facial Veins Broken Capillaries What
will the PROFILE laser do?
Your physician will use Profile to restore your skins youthful
color. Broken capillaries and other visible vascular structures
will be gently eliminated from the visible layers of your
skins surface. Profile has the ability to provide a treatment
that is optimized to your skin condition. Unwanted lesions
will be preferentially heated by the laser energy and become
less noticeable, some will disappear; and pigmented lesions
will greatly improve. |

 |
What areas can be treated?
All skin areas can be treated. Popular areas are the face,
neck, chest and legs. Discuss your needs with your physician.
Is there a risk?
There is little risk for the treatment of these benign comditions.
In some cases repeat treatment will be necessary depending
on your response to the treatment and the desired result.
How long will I take to recover?
Your healing time will depend upon your actual treatment,
and you may experience erythema (redness) which may last
several days. There is virtually no recovery time and you
may resume an active lifestyle immediately. Your physician
can answer question about temporary changes to your skin
color and how they may be camophlaged.
What should I expect after treatment?
Some temporary redness may be present in the area that has
been treated, however, this should subside within a few
hours. Your skin will have a pink or red color that will
resolve over time. You will need to avoid direct sun exposure,
or use a sun block of at least SPF 15 when outdoors.
Will it be uncomfortable?
There is little to no discomfort, however this varies from
patient to patient and depends on the dpeth of the treatment.
There is no need for anesthesia and your physician will
discuss your options to properly manage any discomfort from
the treatment. There will be no posttreatment discomfort.
What will happen during the procedure?
Your eyes will be protected with safety shields or glasses.
Profiles laser beam will be delivered to the area of your
skin being treated. You may briefly feel a warm or hot sensation
as the laser pulses are preferentially absorbed in
the unwanted vessels, heating and destroying them. Your
procedure may take a few minutes to half an hour depending
on the size of the area to be treated.
What aftercare will I need?
It is important to follow your physicians instructions.
You may be given some skin care products and instructions
on how to use them. This will minimize your risk for inflammation
or redness and ensure the shortest response time. Any vessels
or pigment denatured by the laser will be reabsorbed by
your body over a period of time in a natural cleaning process.
Most small capillaries will become invisible almost immediately
since they will no longer contain blood flow. Your
skin will be sensitive to ultra-violet light and you must
avoid direct sun exposure. Most of the conditions treated
by the laser will have been caused by sun exposure so avoiding
the sun will prolong your new youthful appearance. fully
You need to cover your skin or use a good sun screen whenever
you go outdoors.
